Dear Diary... 親愛的日記...

I finally got around to start my own blog, ten years after the birth of blogosphere. You know what they say, better late than never. And what better time is there to start a new project than on the eve of the historic U.S. presidential election? November 4 is a new start for America, for the world, and for me.

Feeling inspired

Earlier today I met up with a friend of mine, a web designer I hired to create a website for me. By having my own personal site, I hope to create a platform to consolidate my various interests and turn everything I do – singing, writing, teaching, photography, interior design – into something more than the sum of its parts. During our brainstorming session, my friend suggested I that start writing a blog to give the web site a bit more content. Alrighty then, I said to my friend, and a few hours later I found myself sitting in front of my iMac blogging for the first time.

Creating your own web site is exciting; it’s a bit like buying your first home. But it’s also a colossal undertaking. I’m curious to see whether it will end up being one of those projects I start but never finish, or one that will take my interests to the next level. Time will tell.

This past Saturday marked my 10th anniversary in Hong Kong . To be precise, it was the 10th anniversary of my repatriation to Hong Kong. The images are gruesome and the details are chilling. A woman held captive in a residence has been starved and beaten beyond recognition. Twenty years ago, a Canadian entrepreneur walked down Lan Kwai Fong and had a Eureka moment. Eric Levine spotted an opportunity in gym-deficient Hong Kong and opened the first California Fitness on Wellington Street, a few steps away from the city’s nightlife hub. Business took off and by 2008 the brand had flourished into two dozen health clubs across Asia. There was even talk about taking the company public on the Hong Kong Exchange.
